Turmeric is a spice that comes from the root turmeric plant (Curcuma longa). It is commonly used in Asian food. Turmeric has been used as a medicinal herb for over 5000 years and finds mention in Ayurveda and over the last 25 years has gained prominence as an in supplements. The yellow color comes from bioactive known as curcuminoids, which has also prompted its extensive use of food coloring.
